A Poem For Our Times

They yell and scream oppression,
As they sharpen up their knives.
They claim they fight for justice
Yet they fight to take our lives.

They say they’re on the side of right,
But their slogans are just bait,
And once the public swallows it
They shall unleash their hate.

We’ve heard this song a hundred times,
We’ve watched this film before.
We shall not go Rhodesia’s way
Or end up like the Boer.

The mob has taken to the streets,
Its boots are on the ground.
They march and chant and yell and rage,
They harry and they hound.

For justice they fight — that’s what they say,
And to create equality.
But equality to them is just
The death of folks like you and me.

We’ve heard this song a hundred times,
We’ve watched this film before.
We shall not go Rhodesia’s way
Or end up like the Boer.
