Editor’s Note: The following is a rough excerpt from the introduction of a forthcoming book on Traditionalist Conservatism on which the author is working currently.
When encountered by a typical moderne, the traditionalist conservative causes confusion, for he does not square neatly with popular, post-industrial conceptions of Left and Right. The reason our typical moderne cannot fit the traditionalist conservative into a neat, contemporary ideological box is simple: At his core, the traditionalist conservative rejects all ideologies, for ideologies are simply secular religions which replace Christianity with faith in a political ideal or principle, and the traditionalist conservative in the West, being a Christian, or at the very least accepting the Christian soul of Western civilization, has no need to do so.
The following is a comparative diagram of the three major strains of the dissident right: ideological Traditionalism with a capital “T” (a la Guenon, Evola), traditionalist conservatism (as espoused by yours truly on The Traditionalist Mind), and what I will at present refer to broadly as the Revolutionary Right (which for the purposes of this article refers to the New Right, Fascists, and broad swathes of the Alt-Right). The reaction from nearly all sides — by which I mean progressive leftists of every sort, so-called political moderates, the mainstream media, and the feckless liberal cowards who inhabit the halls of Conservative Inc. — in the wake of the events in Charlottesville, Virginia was simply staggering.
Rarely in this author’s life has he seen such a flagrant display of hypocrisy, intellectual dishonesty, doublethink, ideological manipulation, and pure, unadulterated lying from the media powers-that-be. (more…)
